Dural Public School and Galston High School are heading to the Grand Final of Rotary’s Pitch for Purpose Innovation Challenge, where they will join the 10 strongest teams from schools across Sydney.

The final will be held at Western Sydney University’s Parramatta South Campus on 19th September, with two teams from each school presenting their topics.

The challenge asks young people to choose an environmental problem that matters to them, then develop and pitch a practical solution. Students have tackled plastic and air pollution, waste and sustainable food. Organisers say the program is about more than finding a winning idea. It is also meant to build confidence, critical thinking and communication.

Students are not doing this alone. Rotary facilitators from engineering, education, architecture, law, public speaking and storytelling work alongside teachers, challenging the students’ thinking and helping them turn an idea into something they can stand up and defend.

The public is invited to the final, and guests are asked to RSVP. A professional photographer will be there, and many students have given permission to be photographed. For more information or to RSVP, contact Liz McDougall at [email protected] or on 0419 267 960.
