Mayoral Christmas Appeal Supports Hawkesbury Community Kitchen

The Mayoral Christmas Appeal season has arrived in the Hawkesbury, reminding us of a place that has done its work day in and day out for more than 30 years. Hawkesbury Community Kitchen is where a person facing hardship can get a feed, but the food is only part of the story.

Walk in and you will find more than hungry stomachs being filled. There are hygiene products to take and facilities to use, the sort of basics most of us never think twice about until we go without. Just as important is the atmosphere. The Kitchen is a safe and non-judgemental space where people can sit down, rest, talk to someone and feel looked after.

Keeping that going over summer and the festive period takes supplies, and this is where the community comes in. Hawkesbury City Council is encouraging residents to donate toiletries, underwear for men and women, and non-perishable pantry goods. Cleaning supplies, serviettes, paper towels and toilet paper are on the list too, because a kitchen that feeds people needs to stay clean and stocked. Supermarket gift vouchers and gift vouchers for all ages will also help.

Mayor Mary Lyons-Buckett sees the appeal as a way for locals to live out the true meaning of Christmas. For her, it comes down to giving generously to people in need and backing an organisation that matters to the Hawkesbury.

“The incredible service and support that Hawkesbury Community Kitchen provide for our community is driven by the belief that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect, at Christmas, but all year round,” Mayor Lyons-Buckett said.

“Through the Mayoral Appeal, I am delighted to be able to support Hawkesbury Community Kitchen and the important work they do, and I encourage you all to make a donation and show your support.”

Hawkesbury Community Kitchen Committee Chair, Stuart Rivas, thanked the Hawkesbury community for their support.

“Christmas is a joyous time of year, but there are many in our community who struggle to put food on the table for themselves and their family.

“With your help, the team at Hawkesbury Community Kitchen strives to make sure every local family doing it tough has the chance to experience a merry Christmas.”

“Thank you to everyone who digs deep and makes a donation this year, no matter how large or small.”

Donations can be dropped off in the special market drop boxes from now until Friday 11 December 2026 at Council’s Administration Building, 366 George Street, Windsor; at Hawkesbury Central Library, 300 George Street, Windsor; and at Richmond Branch Library, 29 West Market Street.

Shoppers can also drop off unwrapped donations at Richmond Marketplace.
