Salvation Army

In July 1865 a group of volunteers met in England to discuss how they could support needy people. Their aim was to alleviate physical distress and to build spiritual well-being for the large numbers of people living there in poverty.

The movement gained momentum and a newspaper release named it “The Volunteer Army”.

Before the article went to press, the founder struck out the word “volunteer” and replaced it with “Salvation”. And so, the Salvation Army was born.

In Australia, the Salvos follow this creed of being there to help people financially, emotionally and spiritually via caring, compassionate and non judgemental encounters across all cultural and socio- economic groups.

The two stores in Glenorie and Dural are largely run with the commitment and energy of many volunteers who sort several thousand donated items every week. The money raised goes back into the community.

Our in-store focus this month is on children’s toys and books. There is a dedicated children’s toy and play area in the Dural store where a huge array of soft toys, construction, puzzles, games, pull-alongs and baby items are housed. If you are looking to add on to your LEGO blocks or wooden Brio rails, this is a good starting place!

We stock over 1000 children’s picture books ranging from all time favourites like Pamela Allen, Mem Fox and Beatrix Potter to more recently published books on every subject imaginable.

Our Manager is planning in- house school holiday feature spots this month for children, so please check the Salvos Facebook page for details, or ring the Dural store on 9651 4504.

We are also running another STOREWIDE HALF PRICE DAY in both stores on Tuesday 31 July to thank our valued customers for their generosity, both in donating goods and in purchasing goods. You are assured of a warm welcome on this, and on every day, so do come and visit us.
