Mayor Yvonne Keane congratulates bronze medallist Jonathon Milne on his efforts in the Rio 2016 Paralympics

The Hills Shire Mayor, Councillor Yvonne Keane, has praised para-archery athlete Jonathon Milne on his efforts in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games on Friday.

Mayor Keane commended the Abbey Archery staff member and pro athlete for achieving huge success in the Summer Paralympics and doing the Hills Shire proud.

“I would like to offer my warmest and heartfelt congratulations to Jonathon who has truly excelled in archery and done Australia proud with a bronze medal,” Mayor Keane said.

“Jonathon should be extremely proud of everything he has achieved.

“The whole Hills Shire community has been behind him every step of the way – from the qualifying rounds through to the finals.

“His efforts in the 2016 Paralympics has been truly inspirational. I wish Jonathon every success in his future sporting career.”

Jonathon was Australia’s sole para archer in the Rio Summer Games and was Australia’s first medallist at the event since 1984 when Ian Trewhalla took two silver medals in the double advanced metric tetraplegic and the men’s short metric round team.

The 30-year-old began his career in archery four weeks after a surfing accident left him paralysed from the chest down in 2012.
