August was “Action Month” at Dural Bocce Club, and by the middle of it the courts were busy with the sort of focus that only comes before a title match.
Many members spent the first weeks of the month sharpening their skills ahead of the Annual Men’s and Ladies Doubles Championship, an event that carries a little extra buzz every year for one simple reason. Players get to nominate their own team partner, which is a change from most competition days, when teams are decided by names drawn out of a hat.
The big day was August 15th, when eight men’s teams and three ladies’ teams lined up to play. The competition was fierce from the first round and stayed that way right through to the final bowl.
In the ladies’ draw, Anna and Silvana took the title, with Mary and Rosa finishing a close second. The men’s final was just as tight. Guido and Franco came out on top, narrowly tipping out last year’s champions, Tony and Mario, who finished as runners-up for 2026.
The club has thanked the officials who coordinated the event, along with the spectators who stayed on to watch the closing stages of such a tight contest.
Bocce suits all ages, and newcomers are welcome to try it at The Dural Club on any Tuesday morning or Friday evening. The club promises you will love it. For more information, contact [email protected].
