By Dr Peter Gangemi, Mayor Hills Shire Council
A flood watch has been issued for the Hawkesbury-Nepean River, Colo River and Macdonald River. In addition to this, Sydney has been told to brace for severe weather over the coming days. With Warragamba Dam at 99 per cent capacity, I strongly encourage those in the low-lying parts of The Hills Shire to be flood ready, including moving belongings to higher ground and knowing their evacuation plan inside and out.
Horses, livestock and domestic animals can also be relocated to Castle Hill Showground. The Greater Sydney Local Land Services will be managing the animal evacuation centre from 6pm tonight (1 March 2022) and I’m proud Council can be of service. Those who are relocating animals need to bring appropriate identification for their animals. They must also bring adequate food and water, and remain onsite with their animals at all times.
I also urge residents to follow the warnings and never enter flood waters as they pose a significant drowning risk.
