Hornsby Shire Council has an exciting program of free events for Youth Week 2024. This year’s theme, ‘Express. Empower. Get loud!’ has something for everyone, with a chance for young people to learn something new, have fun, and showcase their talents.
The events kick off on Tuesday 9 April, when the Young Artist 2024 exhibition, My Happy Place, will open at the Wallarobba Arts & Cultural Centre. Presented by Hornsby Arts Society, the competition encourages the next generation of artists.
There’s a free movie night at Event Cinemas Hornsby on Friday 12 April, featuring Ghostbusters – Frozen Empire, along with FREE snacks! Bookings are essential as places are limited and will fill up fast.
On Saturday 13 April, young people aged 10 and over are invited to share their scooter, skateboard and BMX talents at the Community Skate Workshops and JAM Sessions at Galston Skate Park from 10am to 2pm. Families are welcome at this free event, with prizes and a BBQ.
For those young people eager to try something new, an insightful Community CPR Workshop will be held at Hornsby Aquatic and Leisure Centre on Tuesday 16 April, 10am-12pm, providing crucial skills for emergency situations.
And budding environmentalists can learn how to make their own reusable and natural food wraps while taking the opportunity to chat about sustainability and share tips for lowering our impact on the environment at a Make Your Own Beeswax Wraps session on Thursday 18 April from 2pm to 3.30pm. Spaces are limited at both workshops and bookings are essential.
Young people can also drop into the Lifeline Session on Thursday 18 April, 1.30pm-5pm, to pick up a showbag and learn about the free mental health support offered at Hornsby Library.
