Listening to Our Local P&Cs

Community members at a panel discussion on local P&Cs in Galston and Hills area.

BY Julian Leeser MP

Our P&Cs play an incredibly important role in our local school communities. Parents and volunteers give their time, raise funds, support school activities and, most importantly, bring a strong voice for families.

Recently, I brought together P&C executive members from public schools across the Berowra electorate for an informal discussion about their schools, their communities and the issues that matter most to local families.

I always value the opportunity to sit down with local parents and volunteers and hear directly about their experiences. P&C members have a unique perspective because they are part of their school communities every day.

The discussion was a great opportunity to share ideas, hear about the priorities of different schools and better understand what families want to see from our education system.

As Shadow Minister for Education, I have the opportunity to take the perspectives of local communities into the broader national conversation about education policy. While our public schools are primarily a responsibility of the NSW Government, there are important areas where the Federal Government can contribute to improving education outcomes and supporting students, teachers and families.

I was grateful to everyone who gave up their evening to join the discussion and share their ideas.

I look forward to continuing these conversations with our local P&Cs and making sure the experiences of families in Berowra are part of the education policy discussions I take to Canberra.
