Rotary Club West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook

Our Club was involved in three Anzac services this year having been invited by the Hornsby RSL, West Pennant Hills and Cherrybrook Lions Club and the Rotary Club of Beecroft to attend and participate in their programs.

A very successful Bunnings BBQ was held at Castle Hill on 15 April with proceeds going to the Nusa Tengarra Association, an organisation which delivers support to local communities in East Indonesia.

On 28 April three Club members travelled to Canberra for the Annual Nusa Tenggara Association dinner at which our Peter Stanton was guest speaker.

On Saturday 6 May the Club held its first Mothers’ Day Market. We worked together with the Rural Fire Service and the Girl Guides. Twenty nine stall holders sold their wares and raised significant funds for ‘The Hills Women’s Shelter’, ‘The Hills Women’s Shed’ and other Rotary charities. It was a fun day providing lots of food, drinks, craft, good Mothers’ Day shopping and entertainment. The Mayor of the Hills Shire, Peter Gangemi, attended along with many members of the local community. Camellia Grove at Glenorie generously donated sixty camellia bushes for us to sell. Raffle prizes included a flower voucher donated by Dural Flower Farm, won by Diana Baird and artwork donated by Len Smith, won by Yvette Hallal.

Also on 6 May Julian Lesser, MP for Berowra, invited the Club to set up a booth to showcase Rotary at a King’s Coronation Picnic held at Fagan Park, an event bringing together local residents, community organisations and groups to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

PRIDE OF WORKMANSHIP AWARDS
The Club held its Pride of Workmanship Awards on 15 May at Springfield House, Dural.

The Pride of Workmanship Award is designed to acknowledge an employee or volunteer who displays outstanding qualities in terms of dedication and commitment to their work.

This year our awardees were Marc Denison, an apprentice mechanic with Bob Whyms Automotive Pty Ltd; Adam Horton who has his own building company, Rosebrooke Building; and Paul Bryan, Chairman of Cherrybrook Uniting Church Council. David Firth, the District Pride of Workmanship Chairman, presented the awards.
