Hills Hawks Set to Soar Higher

By Lawrence Machado
The Hills Hawks FC are keen to put behind them two tough and challenging years and start the 2022 football season on a positive note.

Club President, Ian Robertson, said they are kicking ahead with plans to add to their women and men’s teams as they bring more grassroots football opportunities to the area.

“We are looking to add to our 39 teams within the club, including our men and ladies social competitions that we run each Saturday with more mini and competition teams, with a real push and focus on having some all-ladies teams,” Robertson said.

The Hawks are the oldest and largest club in the Gaston and Glenorie districts, and last year were crowned Reserve Grade champions for the first time.

The Hawkies have been around for more than five decades, with many players succeeding at the representative levels, and others becoming officials and referees.

“We’re excited and looking forward to the coming season to reunite with our friends, make some new friends and continue to bring grassroots local soccer to our local community of Glenorie, Galston, Dural and Arcadia areas,” Robertson said.

“The last two years have been very difficult for our club with a shortened season in 2020 and then last season cut short at the end of June.

“Nevertheless, our club and wonderful committee have soldiered on to plan and get ready for this coming 2022 season.

“In 2021, we did have some shining moments, with our Premier League squad winning the Reserve Grade Premiership, and a great new club sponsor, Enzos Cucina at Dural, coming on board.

“Our famous mini gala day in May again proved to be a great success for the club and our Hills Hawks family.”

The club welcomes members, both young and old, promising friendship, fun and exercise.
