Members of the Glenorie Probus Club spent a day in Windsor this month, tracing the town’s history back to the early 1800s.
The group visited the Waterwheel in Windsor Mall, a working piece of machinery that has been turning since the early 1830s alongside its original pondage. Windsor itself carried a different name for its first years — it was known as Green Hills before being renamed in 1810.
After exploring the site, members broke for morning tea and browsed the local shops before driving on to Rouse Hill, where the group shared lunch together.
The club’s regular monthly meeting featured a guest speaker from Service NSW, who walked members through the licensing requirements that kick in for drivers turning 75, and the additional checks required at 85 for those who want to keep driving. Members said the session cleared up questions many of them had been putting off asking.
