Good news travels fast in a small community, and this one’s been welcomed warmly. Galston Early Learning Centre is getting a serious upgrade, thanks to a $27,000 grant from Community Bank Galston.
The centre, a mainstay for families needing reliable childcare and early education, will use the funding for two things. First, a proper air conditioning system, replacing whatever’s been limping along and leaving both kids and staff sweating through summer or shivering through winter. Second, solar panels, which will chip away at the centre’s energy bills and its environmental footprint at the same time.
It’s the kind of project that ticks a lot of boxes at once: comfort for the children, better working conditions for the educators, and a bit of extra breathing room in the budget once power costs start dropping. Extra money that isn’t going to electricity bills tends to end up where it’s needed most, in resources and programs for the kids themselves.
Community Bank Galston has been keen to point out that grants like this are only possible because of the people who bank with them locally. It’s their pitch, essentially: put your money in the community bank, and it comes back around as air conditioning for toddlers and solar panels on a childcare centre roof. In Galston, that pitch just became a little more tangible.
