Galston Village Public Domain Project Begins

Galston’s main street about to look different. Hornsby Shire Council broke ground today on the Galston Village Public Domain project, with a sod-turning ceremony marking the start of construction after years of planning and community consultation.

Scope broad. New landscaping, outdoor seating, angled parking, and updated signage are all part of the package, along with a complete overhaul of the corner park to serve the community that’s been steadily growing. Pedestrians get raised crossings and wider, upgraded footpaths.

Cyclists get bike racks. Commuters get new bus shelters, better-designed stops. Within the High Pedestrian Activity Area, the speed limit is reduced to 40 km/h to make the village centre safer for pedestrians.

Mayor Warren Waddell said the upgrades reflect Council’s commitment to preserving Galston’s character while supporting its future.

“This project is particularly meaningful for me given my long connection to the area. Galston has a unique character that the community values deeply, and these upgrades have been carefully designed to enhance the village while preserving what makes it special,” the Mayor said.

That balance, between growth and character, shaped the project from the start. The plan grew out of the earlier Galston Village Public Domain Plan, went out for community exhibition, and came back with strong support. Council seems to have taken feedback seriously rather than treating it as formality.

Construction is expected to wrap by Spring 2027, weather permitting. Anyone wanting more detail on staging, timelines, and design plans can find it at hornsby.nsw.gov.au/Galston-Village-Upgrades.
