Each year Arcadia Pony Club their pony club camp weekend where members, their families and their horses spend two nights at an equestrian facility that caters to pony cubs and camping just a few hours from Sydney. It is a key highlight for members who have the opportunity to ride all weekend along with spending time with their pony club friends.
Last year, Arcadia Pony Club held their annual camp over the long weekend in October at the beautiful Fernances Creek Farm in the picturesque Wollombi Valley.
The camp was held the last weekend of the school holidays and was very well attended with over 48 riders and 28 horses and ponies. The weather was very warm but this didn’t dampen the enthusiasm with riders saddled up bright and early Saturday morning to explore the cross country jumps and the riding trails. The younger members started the day off well with some rider safety sessions then fun games such as ‘walking’ egg and spoon races on their ponies in the enclosed show jumping paddock.
Late Saturday afternoon after riding there was swimming in the dam and many riders also enjoyed apple bobbing – what a great way to stay cool and the ponies got lots of apple core treats as well!
Saturday evening was spent around the camp fire for dinner and sharing stories from the day, whilst toasting marshmallows of course! Sunday was more fun with cross country and trail riding with campers sadly packing up after lunch to head home.
A special thanks to Katie from Arcadia Pony Club for organising the weekend; and to the wonderful instructors that also attended with their own families and horses and ran sessions throughout the camp. We can’t wait for this camp this year!
