Performances, Food Trucks, Free Kids’ Activities And Pool Entry To Mark Australia Day 2024 In Hornsby Park

Hornsby Shire Council is once again inviting residents to join in the fun at Hornsby Park this Australia Day (26 January) for performances, First Nations songs and dance, food trucks, free kids’ activities and free entry to the Hornsby Aquatic and Leisure Centre.

Following an official citizenship ceremony, the entertainment will kick off from 12pm as Gawura Cultural Immersions — a dance company of First Nations performers who perform all their songs in Dhaurug Dalang — take to the stage before local legends The Funky Monkeys jam out some hits for all generations and Lily Guerrero & Band spice things up with their Latin flavour and big sound.

While adults can sit back and enjoy the entertainment, kids can take on all kinds of free fun including face painting and when you’ve danced up a good sweat, Hornsby Leisure & Aquatic Centre next to the park will have free entry from 12pm-4pm with lots of inflatable fun in the outdoor pool! For pool entry, please see the Aquatic Centre front desk. Capacity limits will apply.

Also at the event will be a mouth-watering motorcade of local food trucks including MyMeCaterers (Indian Vegetarian Street food), Twist Potato Sydney (Chips on a stick, burgers, hotdogs, smoothies and more), Alex’s Ice creams and Mini Melts (delicious gourmet frozen desserts).

Hornsby Shire Mayor the Hon Philip Ruddock AO says he is excited to be bring back some crowd favourites to the line-up of entertainment for this year’s event as Hornsby Shire comes together again for a day on which “we celebrate as well as make time to reflect and pay our respect”.

“We’re very proud of the great diversity of cultures and backgrounds that call Hornsby Shire home,” said Mayor Ruddock. “I’m very much looking forward to adding yet another thread to that vibrance as we welcome our newest citizens this Australia Day and bring our community together with some fun and entertainment that all can enjoy.”

Hornsby Shire Council’s Australia Day event — supported by the National Australia Day Council — runs from 12pm to 4pm at Hornsby Park, Peats Ferry Road, Hornsby and is FREE. For more information visit: www.hornsby.nsw.gov.au/australiaday
