Community Events and Strategic Planning Drive Strong Local Engagement

Jane Seaglove – Hornsby Councilor, holiday season, Risk Management, Hornsby Park, Hornsby Shire

This past month at Council has been a busy and productive one, with a range of initiatives and community events reflecting the diverse work taking place across the Shire. From strategic planning decisions to community celebrations and support programs, it has been encouraging to see strong local engagement throughout the month.

A key milestone was Council endorsing the progression of the Glenorie Village Planning Proposal. This represents an important step in planning for Glenorie’s future growth while protecting the character and lifestyle that residents value so highly. The proposal seeks to strengthen the village centre, improve local amenity and support future opportunities for residents and businesses alike. As the planning process continues, ongoing community feedback will remain an important part of shaping the final outcome.

There has also been continued discussion surrounding the State Government’s proposed Statewide framework for planning and approvals for a number of developments. While there is recognition of the need to deliver housing and infrastructure efficiently, it is equally important that meaningful community input remains central to the planning process. Residents should continue to have a genuine opportunity to provide feedback on developments that may impact their neighbourhoods, local character and quality of life.

Council also hosted another successful series of Hello Hornsby events for seniors, providing valuable opportunities for older residents to connect, participate and access useful information and services. These events continue to play an important role in promoting inclusion, wellbeing and social connection within our community. It was wonderful to see such strong participation and positive engagement across the program.

Another highlight this month was the opening night of the Reimagine Art Prize. The exhibition showcased the creativity and talent within our community while encouraging important conversations around sustainability and reuse. The artworks demonstrated how recycled and repurposed materials can be transformed into inspiring pieces of art, reinforcing the value of environmental awareness in creative ways.
