The recent revitalization of two Hawkesbury playgrounds, Gow Reserve in McGraths Hill and Freemans Reach Reserve, culminated in joyous opening celebrations. The sound of children’s laughter filled the air as they explored the new play equipment, a testament to the success of the projects.
Local children participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremonies, officially inaugurating the playgrounds. Families enjoyed treats such as ice cream and donuts while experiencing the refreshed spaces.
Mayor Les Sheather, who presided over the openings, remarked on the evolution of playgrounds since his own childhood. He emphasized the enhanced safety, vibrancy, and shade provisions of the modern facilities, while acknowledging their enduring role in childhood enjoyment and development. Councillors Mike Creed, Peter Ryan, and Nathan Zamprogno joined him at the events.
The playgrounds’ designs reflected community input gathered through a consultation process. Gow Reserve’s design was shaped by 142 community responses, while 51 individuals contributed to the Freemans Reach Reserve plan.
Gow Reserve now features a climbing tower with slides, seated and nest swings, a ground-level trampoline, a see-saw, a spinner, a play cubby/charging station, a picnic table and seating, and shade sails.
Freemans Reach Reserve boasts a climbing tower with a slide, swings, an obstacle course, a roundabout, a rocker, and seating.
Both locations have also benefited from landscaping improvements.
