Work on a $2 million upgrade and extension at the much-loved Livvi’s Place all-abilities playground at Bernie Mullane Reserve in Kellyville is set to start this month with fences blocking off the back area of the playground installed on Monday, 23rd September.
A spokesperson for The Hills Shire Council says council is working hard to ensure that parts of the playground will be kept open for as much time as possible, including the water play area. The construction is expected to be completed by March 2025.
“Some areas of the current playground, located outside the construction zone at Bernie Mullane Reserve, will need to be temporarily closed at intervals to facilitate necessary works.
However, Council is committed to minimising disruptions and ensuring that parts of the playground, including the popular water play area, remain accessible for as much time as possible throughout the construction period,” she said.
“The designated construction zone, which is located behind the water park and play area, will remain closed for the duration of the works.
“Council appreciates the community’s understanding and cooperation during this time, as we work to enhance the facilities for all to enjoy.”
The extended facilities will provide an all-inclusive recreation space for children of all ages and abilities and will boast a variety of new features, including an accessible multi-activity play tower, a double flying fox, slides, a climbing net and swings designed for both toddlers and older children.
The work will also include the construction of an accessible amenities building, complete with a ‘Changing Places’ room, with an overhead hoist, shower, toilet, and ambulant unisex cubicles.
Shade sails, picnic shelters, a dry creek bed, accessible park furniture and wide pathways will also feature.
The Livvi’s Place Playground Extension Project is funded by the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants (WSIG) Program in partnership with Council. $1.1 million of the WSIG Program is going towards the Livvi’s Place project.
The upgrade is the latest in a huge portfolio of park and playground works completed by Hills Shire Council in the past three years.
So far over $8million has been spent on upgrades and nearly $64 million on new parks in the Shire.
Recent upgrades include: Balcombe Heights Estate at Baulkham Hills, Gooden Drive Reserve, Baulkham Hills, Coorumbene Court Reserve, Bella Vista, McGilvray Place Reserve, Rouse Hill and William Harvey Reserve, Rouse Hill.
For those seeking alternative play areas during the closure Livvi’s Place at Kellyville will find that Samantha Riley Drive Reserve playground, Golden Grove Reserve, Duncraig Drive Reserve, and Ted Pike Reserve are all within 800 metres of Livvi’s Place Playground.
