Our much anticipated (end of May) meeting with Andrea Blackford, the Assistance Dogs representative finally arrived.
We had 23 quilts, finished, labeled and ready for “giving!” For this meeting our member’s attendance was 99% and Andrea’s presentation was wonderfully inspiring.
The training an Assistance dog receives; the care of the dog’s health; the affection shown to each dog and the PRIDE from the whole team of trainers when a dog ‘graduates’ and becomes the lifelong support to a deserving recipient is impressive and heartwarming.
This IS ONE WORTHWHILE CHARITY and we are thrilled to be a small part of this group. Photos of two dogs-in-training and our completed quilts.
We were told the dogs ‘approved’ of our efforts!!! We are now in ‘winter-working-mode’ as the days grow colder, however there is still time for social activities and our celebration lunch of “Christmas in July” will soon be held locally at The Galston Club.
More recent socialising found us participating in The Biggest Morning Tea Charity Event. We had Lucky Door Prizes, a Raffle prize and delicious food. Combining our raised funds with the local Galston Chemist shop made for a very successful morning.
Our meetings are held on the 1st, 3rd and 5th Wednesday of each month at the Community Health Centre, The Glade Galston at 9.30 am.
