Archibald Prize Artists in Conversation

Mark your diaries for the upcoming chance to hear more about the artists and their artworks from the Archibald Prize 2023 exhibition at the Hawkesbury Regional Gallery on Saturday, 16 March 2024.

In Archibald Artists in Conversation, Gallery Curator Diana Robson will moderate the afternoon discussion which will run from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM.

The exhibition fee costs $5 for adults, and is payable on arrival. 17 years old and under are free of charge. According to the Gallery, booking is essential via Eventbrite: Archibald Artists in Conversation.

“Coinciding with this extraordinary exhibition of 57 portraits of Australians from all walks of life is a fascinating program of artist and curator talks, Art-up-Late events, maker space activations, plus the Young Archie Hawkesbury Competition, for young people aged 5 – 18 years living in the Hawkesbury LGA.”

Only 57 were selected for the Archibald Prize out of 949 entries this year. There are more works by women (30) than men (27) from this group of finalists for the first time in the Prize’s history. Aboriginal artists also achieved a record high, with over 101 entries and 38 finalists across three competitions (Archibald, Wynne, and Sulman).

Julia Gutman won this year’s prize with her work “Head in the sky, feet on the ground.” On the other hand, Jaq Grantford’s “Through the window” is the winner of the People’s Choice 2023 while Andrea Huelin took home the Packing Room Prize 2023 for her “Clown jewels.”

The Archibald Prize will replace the Gallery’s previous exhibition Paper Scissors Rock, which was opened to the public in early December last year.

The Hawkesbury Regional Gallery is on the 1st Floor of the Deerubbin Centre, located at 300 George Street in Windsor.
