Platypus Landcare in the Hills

Platypus Landcare in the Hills

Learn more about the local platypus population at the Platypus Landcare in The Hills session at Dural on Saturday, March 16, 2024.

The event’s theme is “riverbank restoration,” covering topics such as removing invasive species, environmental conservation, and maintaining the local ecosystem. The event will run from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM.

The Cattai Hills Environment Network mentioned: “Whether you’re an interested landholder nature enthusiast or simply looking for a fun and fulfilling activity, this event is perfect for you. Together, we will engage in the removal of a small amount of invasive species and work to maintain the local ecosystem.”

According to the Hawkesbury-Nepean Landcare Network, the in-person presentation will cover the following topics:

  • What holds a creek/riverbank together?
  • What species of plant do I plant?
  • What does a platypus burrow look like?
  • What does a healthy creek look like?
  • What is a riparian zone?
  • And more

Those interested are required to reserve a spot online via Eventbrite: Platypus Landcare in The Hills. Additional information is also available in the link.

The organisers mentioned that wearing enclosed shoes is mandatory. While not required, attendees are encouraged to wear a hat, sunscreen, and long-sleeve pants, as there will be areas with tall vegetation. The event is not stroller-friendly.

The event, run by the Connecting Outdoors program, is supported by Hawkesbury-Nepean Landcare Network and the Hills Shire Council Environment Team. It is hosted by Cattai Hills Environment Network and made possible by funding from the Western Sydney Primary Health Network (WSPHN), which is operated by WentWest.

The late-morning informative session will be held at Dural, located at Taylors Road, NSW 2158.
