Dural Scouts Achieve Peak Award

In an informal ceremony at a recent Scout BBQ, Kristina Taylor and Emily Symons were presented with the Australian Scout Award.

This is the highest award in the Scout Section and involves demonstrating skills in Bushcraft, Bushwalking and Camping as well as completing a Leadership Course and leading an Adventurous Journey over three days and two nights.

Kristina and Emily have demonstrated leadership and learning across outdoor activities such as bushcraft, camping and bushwalking with Dural Scout Group and District and Regional events. Both girls developed their leadership skills through leading several projects and exciting adventures. These included representing Dural Scout Group at ANZAC Services, Organising Clean-Up-Australia Day events, completing First Aid courses and learning canoeing and boating skills, which they shared with the younger Scouts.

As part of their Adventurous Journey challenge, Emily lead other Scouts on a three-day boat hike form Berowra Waters down Berowra Creek, while Kristina led a three-day bushwalk in Marramarra National Park. In ‘planning, doing and reviewing’ these activities, both girls demonstrated significant personal growth, an interest in trying new things, and exhibited ‘hands- on’ techniques in tackling new challenges.

Scouting is all about education for life. It’s a dynamic, challenging, and adventurous program that equips young people with life skills, such as teamwork and leadership, and gives them the tools to develop into strong, resilient adults and valuable members of the community.

The 1st Dural Group is very proud of Emily and Kristina’s achievements and will be keen to follow their progress in Scouting.
