In May, The Wanderers Bushwalking and Outdoors Club celebrated a significant milestone for its 50th Year Anniversary.
The luncheon, held at the Castle Hill Country Club, was enjoyed by 77 past and current Members. The Club started with a simple advertisement in a shop window looking for people interested in the outdoors and in those days it attracted adventurous families with children.
A few of these past Members and their grown-up families are still in contact with the Club and attended the anniversary, where stories were recounted of the many “playful antics” the then children pursued!
Today Membership is 100+. With a steady rise in the average age of experienced Members, there is an influx of new Members. One such new Member with a keen bushwalking past, told her story at the luncheon of feeling lost when moving to Sydney to be nearer to her daughters.
Having joined the Club and making new friendships, she remarked “the experience and support received from the Members has been life changing”. The Club provides a sense of belonging for Members who share a passion for walking and developing a network of social connections.
The Club is open to new Memberships and runs a program of activities which includes bush, coastal and local historical walks to suit varying levels of fitness ability.
