The Galston Concerts: Local & International

The Galston Concerts will blend local, national, and international content on Sunday afternoon 18 September, starting ‘1.30 for 2pm’ in Galston Uniting Church.

The ‘local content’ sees Kenthurst-resident Jack Theakston as organist in the 1.30pm pre-concert organ prelude, together with another ‘rising star’, Sydney organist Ava Pudney.

The ‘national’ includes Jack as cellist of the Piccolo String Quartet, multi-prize winners in Musica Viva Australia’s 2021 Strike a Chord national championships for young ensembles. The Piccolos will perform popular Classics by Beethoven and Dvorak.

‘National’ meets ‘international’ when the 18 September program features award-winners of The Galston Concerts very own Young Violists Performance Competition open to residents of Australia and New Zealand.

Co-founder Robert Harris sees such support of next generation talent as an important part of The Galston Concerts concept.

“Our Galston project offering up to $3,000 in prize-money is quite some icing on the more important cake of providing live concert performances to these young talents. Our enthusiastic audience is another bonus, a real ‘buzz’ for young musicians, plus our audience discovers that ‘young’ also means excellent”.

“The viola, a beautiful middle-voice sound, is my chosen instrument, taking me to play concerts in over thirty countries – a likely future for some of these younger talents.
