One of the best parts of my job is advocating for the people who keep our local economy going. More than 150 local business owners joined me for a Small Business and Tax Forum to share their experiences and discuss the challenges they face every day.
Whether they were running a family café, a trade business, or professional service, the message was remarkably consistent. Tax changes and increasing red tape are making it harder to plan, invest and grow with confidence.
I was pleased to welcome Angus Taylor, Jane Hume and economist Warren Hogan, who shared their expertise and answered questions from local businesses about the economic outlook.
Small businesses are the backbone of our community. They create local jobs, support apprentices, sponsor sporting clubs, donate to local charities and often give our suburbs their unique character.
Angus and I outlined the Liberal Party’s plan to cut taxes, including repealing the recent changes to CGT and negative gearing, reducing unnecessary red tape and making it easier for small businesses to invest.
Our plan includes making the $50,000 instant asset write-off permanent for eligible businesses, and reducing compliance burdens so owners can spend more time growing their businesses and creating local jobs.
