Russian Revelations in Galston Concerts

The Galston Concerts return this month with the first of five programs for 2019. A 2pm start Sunday 24 March in Galston Uniting Church sees Russian virtuosi Evgeny Sorkin (violin) and Vladimir Gorbach (guitar) feature in a program of Classical styles.

Baroque Bach and Handel will be contrasted with heart-rending Romantic music by great Russian composers Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich, assisted by pianist Rachael Lin.

Folky fare from Spain and Argentina will give fiery flair to the finale. Proteges of the great Yehudi Menuhin, their skills polished in Europe and North America, both Sorkin and Gorbach are now Sydney-based as lecturers at the Sydney Conservatorium.

They still travel the world with Sorkin’s summer including teaching at New York’s famed Juilliard School.

In a special Galston feature they will bring rising star students to join the billing – mentors and proteges sharing the stage – in keeping with The Galston Concerts traditional support of young performers.

A hot summer in the Hills has been matched by hot ticket sales for the Galston series.

Subscription renewals are bubbling along with five-concerts-for-theprice– of-four rates for Adults or Seniors.

The series gives even better deals to younger music fans: just $10 per concert for high school and university students; free to 12-and-unders when in company of a ticketed adult.
