Kathryn returns to Arcadia parish

In early October we had a visit from Kathryn (Endicott) Allen, who grew up in our area, and her husband Rob. Kathryn is now Diocesan Director with Catholic Mission and she and Rob came to tell us about some of the wonderful work being supported by Catholic Mission. They particularly focused on the St Luke Bujuni Health Centre in Uganda which is run with minimal resources and much dedication by Sister Mary Goretti. Because the centre has the most affordable maternity ward in the region, expectant mothers travel vast distances to reach it by whatever means possible. Kathryn and Rob explained how donations could help fund essential services such as an ambulance and a team of trained midwives at the centre. Picture shows Kathryn and Rob holding up a poster that features Sister Mary and one of the children she has cared for.

Our Lady of Fatima celebration

October 2017 was the centenary of the appearance by Our Lady to three children in the Portuguese village of Fatima and we marked this anniversary with a special event at St Benedict’s on Sunday 8 October. A play recreating the visit of Our Lady, a procession and the recitation of the Rosary in five languages all formed part of the celebration. We were particularly honoured to have our bishop, the Most Reverend Peter Comensoli, join us on this day.

Congratulations to Luke and Chrissy

Last year Luke Neely was one of the young parishioners from St Benedict’s who travelled to Krakow, Poland to take part in World Youth Day. Since then Luke has played a very active role in the parish, becoming a catechist and a member of the parish council. While parishioners were very pleased to hear that Luke had become engaged to Chrissy from Gladesville, we were even more delighted when we learnt that Luke and Chrissy first met each other in Poland when taking part in World Youth Day. Congratulations and best wishes from all of us.
