Ready for Anything!

Galston High School’s Year 11 students recently returned from their annual week-long Life Ready camp held at Cooba Sport and Education Centre in Berridale.

Life Ready is a course designed to prepare and support senior students as they encounter situations related to health and safety as they become more independent and gain more responsibilities. It focuses on offering opportunities for students to build the functional knowledge and skills for life post-school.

As part of Life Ready, students attended the RYDA Road Safety Education program which featured a highly engaging and memorable one-day workshop.

The workshop included police talks, guest speakers, driving demonstrations and various cognitive exercises designed to front-load the students’ understanding of road safety and give them the tools, habits and motivation to take action and stay safe on our roads as both drivers and passengers.

At Cooba, students challenged themselves with a variety of teamwork exercises designed to build their resilience, confidence and teamwork, all while having lots of fun.

Highlights of Cooba included an assault course, canoeing and survivor course. The pinnacle, literally and figuratively, of the camp was a trek to the summit of Mt Kosciusko! The walk was challenging and asked many students to push themselves harder than they have before.

New friendships were made, new obstacles were overcome and new attitudes developed.
