Milestone Awards Honor over 30 Hornsby Shire Organizations

The Community Milestone Awards night at Hornsby Shire Council this year honoured more than 30 local organisations, each celebrating an anniversary in 2026 ranging from 10 to 180 years of service.

The ceremony was held at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre on Thursday 22 October, and it brought together people from across the Shire whose groups have quietly shaped everyday life here for generations.

Among those recognised was Barker College, which is marking its 130th anniversary. Milsons Passage RFS was acknowledged for 75 years of service, while IABBV Hindi School reached 40 years and Hornsby Connect, the youngest of the named groups, reached 10. Together, the honoured organisations span education, emergency services, community welfare, faith, sport, culture and environmental stewardship, which says a lot about the different kinds of people who give their time to the Shire.

“These milestone anniversaries reflect years of dedication, service and community spirit,” Mayor Warren Waddell said.

“Whether they have served the community for 10 years or 180 years, each organisation has made an important contribution to the lives of Hornsby Shire residents. The Community Milestone Awards are an opportunity to recognise the volunteers, members and leaders whose efforts have helped these organisations grow and thrive.”

Council presented certificates of recognition to representatives of the groups reaching milestones, acknowledging their years of volunteering, leadership and service. Council also took the opportunity to thank the wider network of community groups, volunteers and not-for-profit organisations whose ongoing work helps keep Hornsby Shire vibrant, inclusive and connected, including those without an anniversary this year.
