On Monday July 31st, Galston Public School celebrated the opening of our new school playground as part of our Education Week celebrations.
Our assembly showcasing dance groups, choirs and drum group were outstanding and open classrooms a wonderful chance for our families to see the magic that happens in our classrooms every day.
Over the past few years, our school has enjoyed many upgrades, including painting and carpet throughout all learning spaces, new verandahs, upgraded toilet facilities and new roofs on our Library and Administration buildings.
Our new bespoke playground has been completed by Furnass Landscapes under the guidance of Fiona Robbe from the Architects of Arcadia. It has been generously funded by our school P&C, Bendigo Bank Galston branch, as well as the Honourable Matt Keen through his community building partnerships grant. It has been codesigned with our students and community using natural products of sandstone and wood sourced locally. All plants and sandstone products were kindly donated by the following local nurseries:
• Overland Nurseries
• Valley View Nursery
• Cameron’s Nursery
• Ozbreed – grasses
• Country Improvements
• Firestone Sandstone
This new Quiet Area Playground has spaces for performing, spaces for climbing, spaces for digging, spaces for relaxing and spaces to learn, imagine, pretend and play.
As we celebrate 175 years of Public Education in NSW this Education Week, this new playground truly represents the community spirit of our school, demonstrating what can be achieved when a team of like-minded individuals and organisations works together. We are certain it will be a place for our students and the families of the Galston area to enjoy for many years to come.
