Free Digital Skills Training for Local Businesses

Skills development concept with gears and digital technology on a touchscreen.
FREE digital skills training is now on offer to small and micro-business owners across The Hills, after The Hills Shire Council was chosen as a partner in the Australian Government’s Digital Solutions Program. The government-funded program gives local businesses access to training, mentoring, and tools to boost productivity, sharpen their competitive edge, and help them grow.

The Australian School of Employment delivers the training through online workshops, webinars and other resources. Topics cover digital marketing and social media, website and online presence improvements, AI and digital tools, cyber security, business systems and automation, and productivity and operational efficiency.

Mayor of The Hills Shire, Dr Michelle Byrne, said the partnership reflects Council’s commitment to supporting the Hills Shire’s business community in a rapidly changing digital landscape.

“The Hills is home to more than 27,000 businesses, and almost 98 per cent are small businesses,” Mayor Byrne said.

“Digital technology and AI are transforming the way businesses operate, market themselves and connect with customers.

“This program gives local business owners access to affordable expert advice to help them build confidence, save time, improve efficiency and identify new opportunities for growth.

“Whether you’re looking to strengthen your online presence, improve your marketing, streamline operations or better understand AI, this program provides practical support that can make a real difference.”

Businesses signing up also get access to the Hills Digital Learning Hub, a library of short, on-demand video tutorials and step-by-step implementation checklists designed to help owners apply new skills quickly. Topics include improving websites, strengthening online visibility, automating repetitive tasks, enhancing cyber security and using AI more effectively.

Owners who want advice tailored to their own business can book up to five hours of one-on-one mentoring. The mentoring is valued at $1,995, but local businesses can access it for a discounted rate of $110.
