Hornsby Library has launched a community sewing and repair group to promote sustainable clothing practices. Participants can bring garments for mending—such as fixing hems or replacing buttons—with the support of volunteer mentors. No sewing experience is necessary, and those without machines can use the library’s equipment.
For attendees without items to repair, simple visible mending activities are available to learn techniques. Open to ages 18 and over, the program is free for Hornsby Shire residents, but bookings are essential. This initiative not only fosters community but also encourages sustainability by extending the life of clothing.
