Dural Bocce Club has pushed its annual Doubles Championship back a month, shifting the event from July to August after members asked for more time to prepare for the bocce games.
The change means more players will be able to take part, club organisers said, and it gives the club’s growing roster of new members extra weeks on the court before the big weekend.
June itself was a steady month for the club, with regular games running every Tuesday and Friday as usual. Much of that court time went toward welcoming new faces. Several long-time members spent the month coaching newcomers through the basics, and the results have been quick — organisers say the newer players are already holding their own against more experienced opponents after only a few weeks of practice.
The Doubles Championship holds a special place on the Dural calendar. Unlike most of the club’s other competitions, where partners are assigned by random draw, this event lets players choose who they team up with. That freedom tends to produce some formidable pairings, and club members are already talking about who might be teaming up for August.
