Dural Bocce Club Celebrates September Tournament Wins

September was another jam-packed month for members of Dural Bocce Club, and the biggest day on the calendar came halfway through it.

On a Sunday in the middle of the month, 42 members turned up at the courts early in the morning for the annual Triples Championship. Nobody chose their own partners. Names were drawn out of a hat to form the teams, and as any bocce player will tell you, a random draw can throw up some interesting combinations. This year’s draw didn’t disappoint.

Fourteen teams took to the courts and gave their best right down to the final bowl. When the long day was done, Ferdinando, Luciano and Tony were crowned this year’s Triples Champions. Anna, Leo and Luigi finished a close second.

The club thanks its committee, who officiated on the day. Without their work, events like this simply would not happen.

September was also a total point score month, where each player’s scores over a four-week period are added together. On Tuesday mornings, Anna, Tony and Peter took the honours as winners and runners-up. Friday’s results had Peter doubling up from his Tuesday games, with Oreste and Vince tied for second and Joe in third.

Bocce is an indoor sport, so games go ahead whether it’s raining, hailing or shining. Anyone keen to give it a try can visit the club on a Tuesday morning or a Friday evening at The Dural Club. For more information, contact the club at [email protected].
