Autumn an ideal season for recruiting

With the main threat of the bush fire season easing, local brigades from the NSW Rural Fire Service (NSWRFS) Hornsby Ku-ring-gai District will be recruiting for volunteer members.

“The cooler months are an ideal time to conduct recruiting and training programs so that our fire fighters are fully trained and equipped in time for the summer months said Inspector Rolf Poole form Hornsby Ku-ring-gai District Office.

“The NSWRFS is made up of dedicated men and women who also fill a variety of support and administrative roles, not just front line fire fighters. No matter your experience, there is a role for nearly everyone” Inspector Poole said.

Volunteers have been protecting local communities in the Hornsby Ku-ring-gai area from the threat of bush and grass fires for over 75 years. Today our volunteers attend a range of emergences including bush fires, grass fires, house and structure fires, road accidents as well as providing assistance to other emergency services.

The entry level training can then lead to a vast array of other training opportunities. As a registered training organisation the NSWRFS offers nationally accredited qualifications, the individual can take with them and utilise throughout their day to day life. Volunteering with NSWRFS offers the opportunity to develop skills, new friendships, to be part of a team and have a sense of camaraderie.
