A hug wrapped in a quilt-Arcadian Quilters

This is about the only time of the year when everyone can welcome everyone else to the ‘New Year’ ahead …. and we are no exception.

So, welcome friends to 2022. We look forward to sharing this promising year with you in the wider community, sharing our ideas, our achievements and our hopes of spreading help and comfort to those who might need ‘a hug wrapped in a quilter’.

Perhaps this year offers you the opportunity to you to drop in and meet us, share a cuppa and a chat. You may like to consider joining our group, creating and making quilts is a very rewarding interest. The plotting and planning of designs, the matching and blending of colours, learning about the history of our familiar and much-loved patterns, many of which we still continue to use today, the messages those patterns carried ‘when times were tough!

Who knows there may well be new patterns in the making which will mark these tricky few years we are experiencing now.

Sharing something new and in this case a different type of sewing interest makes a week pass quickly!!! Before Christmas, we had the opportunity to set up a link with the Red Cross offices which service the Wollongong and Canberra areas.

These two venues have become a ‘starting point’ for the incoming refugees from Iraq. While the progress seems to us to be slow these families are settling into new homes and a safe, secure way of life. It was our great pleasure of donate these 38 quilts to The Red Cross before Christmas.

We wish these new families every success as they make their new life in Australia.

We normally meet on the 1st, the 3rd and the 5th Wednesday of each month at the Community Health Centre, The Glade, Galston.
