Community Connect is Back

If you are looking for a way to connect with your community then save the date: Sunday 28th September, in your diary.

Community Connect is back at the Harvey Lowe Pavilion at Castle Hill Showground, Doran Drive, Castle Hill from 10am to 2pm and there will be something for everyone.

If you love history, gardening, theatre, art or sewing there are groups for you to talk to, youth groups are also involved including Rotaract plus charities and service organisations working in the areas of mental health support, homelessness and disability who are looking for volunteers.

Norwest Sunrise Rotary Club started the annual event following two years of COVID restrictions as a way of showcasing the number of community organisations and not-for-profit organisations operating in the Hills.

It was a time when people were changing their work situation, moving, and looking for some way of reconnecting or making use of extra time they now had.

President of Norwest Sunrise Rotary Club Robert Bredin said: “This project started post- COVID as a way to connect lonely and socially isolated residents with community groups. Attendees were absolutely amazed at the breadth of opportunity that they were largely unaware of. Multiple connections were made at the event, enough to justify repeating the experience.

“Community Connect allows residents to make a lasting difference in their own lives and perhaps also give their lives more meaning by serving others (just like we do in Rotary).”

Deb Salkeld said “It showcases a wide variety of community groups in the Hills including service clubs, community groups and even performance groups. It is a diverse display of organisations and each organisation is dedicated to giving back to the community. The groups are enthusiastic about their organisation and what they have to offer.

“Previous feedback from the general public that have attended is that they enjoyed seeing and hearing about all of the local organisations displayed and the stall holders were very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. It was a very interesting event.“

Stalls are limited to 35 so if you want your organisation to be involved email Deb at [email protected]

There will be a sausage sizzle available and coffee available from the Hills Daily Grind Coffee cart.
