The volunteer group known as the Friends of Fagan Park collectively care for the Heritage area of the park, namely the Agricultural and mechanical museums, the original dairy and blacksmiths shop.
Along with our lady volunteers they maintain equipment and displays, clean, service, restore items and provide tours to keep alive the history of the Fagan family.
All the volunteers bring skills and abilities from a wide range of life’s work and experiences and passions. This is a brief snapshot of the ‘boys’:
Don grew up on a farm in the US and went on to have a military career, so he has knowledge of older style tractors and likes attention to detail. Ian also grew up on a farm and had a career in the electronics industry after moving to the big smoke. If something has an engine and a crank handle, he won’t be far from it.
Vern worked in the automotive industry and as a retailer and is quite happy to have a spanner in his hand. Tim has a passion for all things military or with two wheels. Mark has an engineering background and great attention to detail. He also cares for the welfare of other members. Roly grew up on a dairy in NZ and is a qualified mechanic having done his time with Fordson in NZ.
Pete is a qualified black smith, an instructor in smithing, and does heritage work on several early buildings around Sydney as well as Fagan Park. Steve is a master spray painter, panel beater and coach builder. When you see a beautiful paint job on the vehicles in the museum, it was Steve.
Chris is a diesel fitter; he likes the challenge of a troublesome engine or old piece of machinery that can be brought back to life. And finally, there is Bob the truckie. He likes things to be neat and clean and is always ready to jump in and give a hand where needed.
We are open every Tuesday from 9-4pm and the second Sunday of the month from 1-4pm. Follow us on FB.
