Crazy Socks on Show at Mt Wilga Private Rehabilitation Hospital to Support People with Down Syndrome

The Ramsay Health Plus NDIS Therapy and Accommodation Team at Mt Wilga Private Rehabilitation Hospital has acknowledged World Down Syndrome Day (21 March) by running a “Crazy Sock Day” for Down Syndrome NSW.

Many NDIS participants who receive services from Ramsay Health Plus at Mt Wilga have a diagnosis of Down syndrome, a common but extremely complex condition with both physiological and cognitive features.

Physiological features include heart defects, low tone and hypermobility of the joints affecting mobility, upper limb function and speech, misshapen bones in the upper spine leading to increased risk of spinal cord injury, vision and hearing problems, disturbed sleep, gut issues with chronic constipation and premature ageing.

Cognitive features include mild to moderate intellectual disability, mental health issues and early onset dementia symptoms.

The Ramsay Health Plus NDIS team at Mt Wilga provides expert allied health services and short-term accommodation services to patients with Down syndrome.

Local NDIS participant, Steph, receives a range of allied health services, including exercise physiology sessions, at Mt Wilga.

Steph is undergoing treatment to assist with her recovery following a hip replacement and to work towards her goal of working in a café.
