The Galston Concerts for 2017 wound down in Galston Uniting Church in late October with a Classical variety line-up which drew audience tributes.
“It was truly a fabulous concert”, “A wonderful year of music”, “Thank you so much”, “Really looking forward to next year” were typical words of praise, from series regulars and many ‘first timers’.
The sounds of voice, flute, piano and bowed strings from leading professionals were almost trumped by the magical colours of the harp from Young Performer Ava Pudney.
Predictable ‘top ten’ Classical composers like Bach, Schubert and Rachmaninov were contrasted with some surprises: songs from Bernstein’s Peter Pan, Piaf ’s La Vie En Rose and Argentinian tangos.
The Gala launched the 2018 series of five concerts which will include pianist favourites returning in all-new programs – Bernard Walz of Good Old Days Concerts fame, with a Las Vegas style vocalist; also Tonya Lemoh, back from concerts in Europe, to play the famous Pictures at an Exhibition.
New to the series will be the world-travelled New England Ensemble and Young Performers talent highlighted by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellows who will offer mixed ensembles for winds, brass, percussion and strings.

“On the day some stalwarts booked next year’s series tickets as Christmas presents which will last all the way to the 18 November 2018 Gala, so we must be doing something right” says concerts cofounder Robert Harris.
Also announced at the Gala were Galston’s Bach Plus Us competitions for Young Performers to be held in March-April, with performances and prize-money an incentive for young musicians from the Hills, Hornsby and Sydney-wide.
