Glenorie Progress Association

BIG WIN FOR GLENORIE RESIDENTS WHO LOVE WALKING – THE POST OFFICE AND WHITES ROAD LOOP.

The improvement of the footpath along Post Office Road in Glenorie from Parkview Avenue to Whites Road is another step closer following the nomination of the project by Council for the 2021 Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program.

The footpath is essential to families and walkers who regularly complete transit along Post Office Road to and from the Glenorie town centre. The walking loop of Glenorie Village to Whites Road and returning via Post Office Road is also increasingly popular, but is dangerous at several locations. Walkers are forced onto the road shoulder or to cross the road at numerous “blind” and “higher speed traffic” locations along Post Office Road. The Glenorie Progress Association has been writing about the loop and advocating for the project throughout 2020 especially as the 2020 lock down period saw an even greater number of walkers using the path.

We are thankful that the improvement of the footpath is a step closer. The footpath has been nominated by Hills Shire Council for $120,000 of funding the 2021 LRCI program. This would see a paved path from Parkview Avenue to the intersection of Whites and Post Office Road. In addition, the Council also nominated for $215,000 to resurface four tennis courts at Les Shore Reserve. Should the projects be successful in gaining funding, the works for the footpath and tennis courts would be completed by Council before Christmas 2021. All 19 projects that Council nominated for the 2020 LRCI program were successful in gaining funding, therefore expectations are high for the 2021 LRCI program.

The GPA would especially like to thank Clr Peter Gangemi for progressing this important need with Council and for the support of all the The Hills Shire Councillors for nominating the project.

RAY WHITEMAN GLENORIE HERITAGE FENCE PROGRESS.
With the combination of State Government grants of $30,000 and $20,000 from Ray Whiteman’s Estate and Family, potential future grants and sponsorship and the assistance of Hornsby Shire Council, the Heritage Fence commencement is imminent. There is a contractual requirement to complete the first phase of the project by September 2021, so it is all “hands on deck” for the various stakeholders and council staff involved in the build of the project. We look forward to imminent progress and thank all who have put a great effort in to date and of course to the generous contributors
