Aimee Gallaway Year 9 Asquith Girls High School
During the duration of Easter holidays I competed on Lake Macquarie Belmont Newcastle at Belmont 16s in the Combined High Schools Sailing Championships in my flying 11 with my crew Jamie Dobinson. With over 120 boats entered we had no idea what to expect. The scoring is based off who is the fasted boat to sail the course. Over a week of intense, hard core, tactical sailing we managed to pull of the lowest overall score of the whole regatta which meant we had sailed ourselves to victory. Winning the title of Australian All schools and Nsw Champions. We also had a close racing fleet for Division four, slower monohulls, which we also finished on top. We managed to have a clean sweep with also winning Nsw and Australian flying 11 championships. This was a massive achievement for me as I am the youngest and first girl to ever win this regatta out of 51 years of this competition been sailed. The week was tough, with hard shifty breeze and tide. The conditioned helped us learn new things and definitely tested my skills. Overall it was a fabulous week, and I would like to Thank Asquith Girls for allowing me to compete.
