The popular Galston Concerts return for 2018 with a series curtainraiser on Sunday 25 February. The world-travelled New England Ensemble will perform a program of music for piano and strings, starting at 2pm in the Galston Uniting Church, 11 School Road, Galston.
The Ensemble’s forty-plus years of international success in over thirty countries has been balanced by tours through all Australian states and a benchmark commitment to serving regional centres and festivals. Their global success – performances described as “worthy of masterpieces“ by London’s Daily Telegraph, “superbly coordinated” in Berlin, “magnificently impressive” in Hong Kong – was balanced by dedicated service to country districts from their base at the University of New England in Armidale – described as “a golden age” for music in northern NSW.
The Ensemble was judged “amongst our top groups” by the Sydney Morning Herald and in Australia’s “Top Five” by the then National Times. They now maintain annual concerts in their home cities – Canberra, Sydney and Adelaide – and especially rural NSW between busy individual careers.
Their program in Galston will feature the passionate Piano Quartet by Dvorak, who composed the ‘New World’ Symphony. The European flavour of the program will also include a ‘Cooks Tour’ array of duos, trios and quartets from Scandinavia to Spain, England to Russia, Hungary and Austria.
While tickets will be available at the Church just prior to the concert, bookings for this concert and the five-concert series can be secured on www.trybooking. com – search Galston. There is also a link to bookings and our Facebook page in the electronic signature below.
Later concerts in the series will include pianist Bernard Walz with a guest cabaret vocalist, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellows ensemble, pianist Tonya Lemoh performing ‘Pictures at an Exhibition’ and an end-of-year Gala featuring young performers.
Subscribers to the series achieve a five concerts for the price of four advantage with a further bonus Bach concert in April as a subscriber benefit.
