Hawkesbury residents will benefit from new sports facilities at the Tamplin Field, Hobartville, with a massive redevelopment underway.
According to the Hawkesbury Council, the upgrade features an upgraded 8-lane 400m athletics track, (including a 10-lane 100m sprint track), a natural turf sporting field with specialised field event areas for shot put, discus, long jump and javelin, multi-use courts, reconstruction of the amenities building with tiered seating, a fitness station, and more play spaces.
The masterplan also includes new car parking, pathways, irrigation and drainage, BBQ facilities and seating. The multi-million-dollar project is funded by the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program.
Hawkesbury Mayor Les Sheather said the redevelopment is a major investment in community infrastructure across the region.
“This project will create a high-quality and accessible sporting and recreation space for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy for years to come,” Mayor Sheather said.
“The upgraded facilities will support local sporting organisations while also providing valuable open space and recreational opportunities for the wider community.”
Tamplin Field currently has a wide range of community activities, including rugby league, Little Athletics, school sports, dog training, and personal training activities. The council says this redevelopment ensures the facility meets the growing needs of the community now and into the future.
“The project will deliver significant upgrades to sporting and community infrastructure, supporting local clubs, schools, families and visitors with improved spaces for sport, recreation and social connection,” the council said.
Peter Primrose MLC, Government Spokesperson for Hawkesbury, said: “Tamplin Field has something for everyone. This green oasis at Hobartville will receive a much-needed facelift so that locals of all ages have an even better space to stay active, connect with neighbours and enjoy the outdoors”.
A ceremonial sod-turning event was held at Tamplin Field on September 3, attended by representatives from the council, local sporting groups and community stakeholders.
