Spectacular Night of Entertainment by the Students of Hillside

What our students thought about their performance in ‘The Lemonade Kid”

Harry: On the 8th of September 2022 all the students of Hillside performed in a pantomime called ‘The Lemonade Kid’. I was an old man named Old Seth and more importantly the Narrator. Before the play even started, I was so nervous even after the months of rehearsal we did together. But I walked up the stage and sat in my rocking chair and started to read my long part and set the scene. Over time I started to feel less queasy and at the end when we all started dancing with the parents, I felt great and had an awesome time with everyone. The next day my friends and I congratulated each other for what we had achieved.

Rebecca: The night was finally here. After months of rehearsing, this was the final performance. I had never been more nervous in my life, my legs were shaking, I felt like I was going to be sick. If I could have, I would just have ran away. I had already done a matinee of the play in the morning, but it was different, there would be hundreds or more people in the audience. Plus, I was the main character and if I messed up all eyes would be on me. When my cue came, I went up on the stage, I said my lines and after I did my first song, I wasn’t nervous anymore. I felt like I was the Lemonade Kid and there was no-one watching me and that my acting was just my regular life, the words just flowed out of me, I didn’t know I was even saying anything, it was just like breathing. Once I finished my song the audience was cheering, clapping, shouting, whistling, everything! I felt so happy, it was amazing. I loved the show, it was one of the best things I have ever done. Emilia: During the night of the Lemonade Kid, I was nervous as anyone would be. There was more than one hundred people in the audience. There was cheering, clapping and the best thing, laughter. It was a pantomime with all the reactions you could hope for. With good o’l western costumes and props. The pantomime was fantastic, played to perfection, all the months of practice really paid off. I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

Esther: I was nervous, my heart was racing with excitement at the same time! I had so much fun, and my parents were very proud of me. They said I was fantastic! It was the best day of my life! Isla: When I was getting ready, I was nervous. My favourite part was when it was my turn to speak. I wanted to keep doing the play. At the end I was very happy, and it was like ‘Phew!’ My mum said she was so proud of me.

Anthony: I was nervous and excited, and my favourite part was at the end of the store scene. I was a cowboy, a singer, a dancer, and an actor. I loved it when my mum and dad said ‘Amazing!’ Dominic: I felt excited and the part I liked the most is when One Eyed Jack shot a hole in the donut. I was a happy cowboy!

Noah: I was happy and loved being a cowboy. The best part was when One Eyed Jack had lemonade tipped over him. I loved dancing ‘Cotton Eye Joe.’
