I know I do! As you peruse the thousands of books on offer, have you ever pondered how much work goes into organizing this event? Just imagine the logistics: donated books need to be stored, sorted, vetted for condition, packed, transported, unpacked, displayed, sold and then remaining books packed again once the sale is over.

Some rare and special books are also individually researched and priced accordingly. It’s a lot of work. Not to mention the traffic control, BBQ and café services provided to attendees. Year after year this is all organized and executed by the fabulous Rotarians and associated volunteers.

As a token of thanks to all the tireless workers at this year’s book fair, The Greater Hills Rotary Club held a Volunteers Thank You Dinner in conjunction with their change over meeting, at the Galston Club on Tuesday, 11th July.

The Dinner was well attended with volunteers, rotarians, and some special guests, including Cllr Warren Waddell.

Outgoing President, Richard Young, who will also be standing down as Chairman of the Book Fair addressed the participants.

“I want to thank the volunteers who assisted with this year’s book fair. Your contributions have been outstanding. As a result income for the weekend was just over $28,000. Contributing to our profits will be the fee waiver from Hornsby Shire Council for the use of the Galston Community Centre. We have been grateful for the many years this has occurred. This year the transport of books to and from the centre has been donated, a very big thank you to Andrew Graham and P & A Transport’.

Some of the funds raised from the Book Fair were donated to the following Community Members and Organisations:
• Days for Girls
• Glenorie Rural Fire Brigade
• Arcadia Rural Fire Brigade
• Mid Dural Rural Fire Brigade
• Galston Rural Fire Brigade
• Michele Rocheta (who also received a Paul Harris Fellowship)
• Warrah

Mr Young also thanked his fellow Rotarians before passing the Presidential baton (and chains) to Ms Kathryn Dickinson. www.daysforgirls.com.au[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
