Prestigious Hills Building and Design Awards introduce exciting new changes in 2016

The Hills Building and Design Awards are introducing exciting new changes in 2016 with two new award categories for Residential Bathrooms and People’s Choice Award. The introduction of the new categories reflects changes in industry trends and the growth of the awards since their inception in 1993.

The inclusion of a People’s Choice Award for the very first time in 2016 will allow award entrants, followers and the general public to vote for their favourite projects, directly involving them in the judging process. Cameron McKenzie Group Manager for Environment & Planning at The Hills Shire Council said increased interest in building and design, as sparked by industry related reality TV and social media, were the driving factors in making the awards more interactive.

“Now anyone with an interest in building and design can follow our Facebook Page to get updates on and see images of the 2016 award entrants. Followers can also comment and share their favourite projects with their friends, get inspiration for their own building or renovation projects and most importantly link to our website and vote for their favourite entrants,” Mr McKenzie said.

The addition of the Residential Bathrooms category to the awards is also a reflection of a shift in industry focus, one that has placed emphasis and interest on bathroom design.

“Over the last couple of years we have received an increasing number of enquiries about including a bathrooms category in the awards. We are now seeing numerous building and design projects wholly centred on artfully designed or made to order bathrooms. When considering changes to the awards in 2016 it was a logical decision to include a category for Residential Bathrooms,” Mr McKenzie said.

Along with these newly added categories, entrants are able to enter their building and design projects in returning award categories for residential projects, commercial developments, pools, landscaping, kitchens, innovative architecture, retail fitout and others.

Category finalists will be announced on 30 August, with winners in each category to be announced at the Hills Building & Design Awards Gala Dinner on 21 October at Curzon Hall.

Projects built or renovated between 1 March 2015 and 17 June 2016 are eligible for entry in one of the many competition categories. All entries must be located within the boundaries of The Hills Shire.
