Pool Safety

Is your pool safe for summer?

In the last twenty years, over five hundred children have drowned in backyard pools in Australia, mostly because of defective pool safety barriers. In New South Wales there are pool safety regulations with which all residential swimming pools must comply. This includes:

  • Pool gates must be self-closing and self-latching from any position
  • Pool gates must NEVER be propped open
  • The minimum pool fence/barrier height is 1.2m and this must not be compromised by objects or vegetation near the fence
  • A pool warning sign must be placed within the pool area
