Opera and song for Galston Concerts

The Galston Concerts will offer opera, song and instrumental colours in their next program – SUNDAY 28 JULY.

Korean soprano Megan Kim
Korean soprano Megan Kim

SYDNEY-RESIDENT ARCH TRIO – Christina Wilson, mezzo-soprano; her husband Alan Hicks, piano and Robert Harris, viola – themselves recent travellers to concerts in Europe and soon in the USA – will be joined by Korean soprano Megan Kim, plus a cameo from Robert’s double-bassist wife Dorit Herskovits.

The program takes G for Galston as its musical theme – Germanic songs by Brahms from Hamburg and Schubert from Vienna plus contrasts by popular Classical composers Gershwin, Grainger, Granados, Grieg plus John Greaves’ clever musical depictions of garden weeds. Young Performer Megan Kim will perform opera arias on the theme of love by Mozart, Donizetti (from his hilarious Don Pasquale) and the popular O My Beloved Father by Puccini (made famous in the film A Room with a View).

Mentor-teacher Christina and protégé Megan will offer the famous Flower Duet from Lakme by Delibes (made famous by British Airways television ads).

The music for a rich mix of voices, piano and bowed strings will span four centuries and four continents – time travel from Ireland and Italy to India, Austria via America to Australia with added sounds of Spain and Scandinavia.

All concerts start 2pm in Galston Uniting with trybooking.com (search Galston) and Promotions Coordinator Helen Jordan on 0425 339 841 being best options for enquiries and advanced bookings.
