Up and coming young singers will have the chance to showcase their talents ahead of Youth Week celebrations in April at Open Mic, a performance night held at Castle Towers on 18 March.
Open Mic will see youth aged musicians take to the stage for an evening of acoustic performances between 6-9pm at Centre Court outside David Jones. Outstanding acts will be chosen from the program to perform at Live It Up the Sydney Hills Youth Festival which will be held at Balcombe Heights Estate on April 10 as part of National Youth Week.
“Open Mic signals the start of Youth Week celebrations in the Hills, these celebrations acknowledge the important role young people play in our community,” Mayor of the Hills Shire Dr Michelle Byrne said.
“Youth Week and its related events also provide opportunities for local youth and community services to engage with young people, sharing valuable life skills in a fun and interactive way,” she said.
While Open Mic only accepts performers between the ages of 12-25, the event is open to audiences of all ages who will love the diversity and skill of the local acts. Open Mic gives friends and families of the performers, as well as the broader community, the chance to support the hard work and talents of young people in the Hills.
“Young people are an invaluable asset to their local communities and we want to provide opportunities like Open Mic to encourage their community involvement, personal growth and enjoyment,” Mayor Byrne said.
Open Mic registrations are now open to youth aged 12-25 and close on March 14. To register your interest please contact Cassidy-Rae Wilson on 0438 564 762. Musicians are required to bring their own instruments or backing tracks, however microphones and a keyboard will be provided.
